Structural Design

Structural engineering is a branch of civil engineering and it has a very wide range of applications to work. The majority of structural engineers work primarily as consultants to Architects/Builders or design-build the civil engineering projects. Structural Engineers create Reinforced concrete or Steel detailing drawings and specifications, perform calculations, write reports and evaluations, and observe construction sites to allow further execution to achieve saftey and durability of structures throughout their use.
Structural engineering is a specialty within the field of civil engineering which focuses on the framework of structures, and on designing those structures to withstand the internal and external stresses and pressures of their environment to remain safe, stable and secure throughout utility span. Structural engineering is a sub-discipline of civil engineering in which structural engineers are trained to design the civil engineering projects that create the safety and durability for that the structures are to be built/designed.
A Professional Engineer’s license is required in order to practice as a Structural Engineer. A license can be obtained only after completing a prescribed amount of education and work experience. Structural engineering has wide range of professional areas which deals with advanced design of concrete structures, Structural dynamics, Advanced solid mechanics, Management in structures and earthquake resistant design, structural design of steel and RCC bridges etc. It is a vast topic with unlimited theories and practices.

Importance:

Structural engineering design and its role is very important because it directly impacts the safety and durability of buildings and structures which is further also tasked with ensuring that materials and resources are used efficiently. Structural design engineer performs various roles and responsibilities in a construction project to provide technical details for the activities at the construction site by following IS Code rules and recommendations required.

Opportunities:

Structural engineers have great opportunities to work in aerospace structures, marine and ocean structures, offshore and naval structures as well as in multistoried structures. A Structural engineer with a masters degree in structures can work in mechanical structural designs also that involve vibrations study because he/she has the background under those subjects.
So being a structural engineer by studying its roles and responsibilities that have to be received is a challenge to have the greater opportunity and importance to become a Doctor’s of structures.
In short Structural engineering is the field that is still developing with huge experimental innovations, ideas and investigations.
